The blog #two
This isn't one of the pieces we went over in class but I found it interesting. What drew me to this was that it was a tripdic. Just the whole idea of a story being told in different panels interests me. In the left panel I think it shows a saint and the pope at the time, in the center panel it shows Mary and Jesus, and the last panel shows Jesus on the cross and Mary showing her sadness. Over all the colors are strong and have a certain feel to them that I believe makes you look closer and bring you in more. And now just so you know this piece was stolen from Italy in 1971 and later found in Kentucky. Just so you know.

I have to wonder if the colors were more vibrant at the time when this was painted and if they have faded over the years. This still has the same stiff feel as the other Mary and Child Enthroned that we looked at from this time period. All of these pieces are so disconnected from reality for me, so unengaging. I can admire them for the paintstrokes but they do not hold any "story" for me.
ReplyDeleteThe design of this piece is really cool when it comes to shape of the panels and placement of the figures. I dont see much of any story, i just see the showing of worship of the religion. Weird how the painting ended up in kentucky after being stolen from italy too haha weird.
ReplyDeleteIt seems even stranger that someone in Kentucky would find these piece appealing. Maybe I haven't met enough people from that state.
